Water is THE issue of the 21st Century. The best way to ensure we sustain this most precious resource is to educate the leaders of tomorrow in the issue today. Stormwater is a fundamental part of the water cycle. Peruse the resource lists below for a variety of materials to help you learn and teach about water-related topics.
We turn on the faucet and it’s always there. Clean, safe, and abudant. Water, the essence of life. We use it every day, but we rarely think about the fact that it's been through a complex journey and many changes before it gets to our home:
What is stormwater? Simply put, it is the precipitation that runs off the land and fills our streets, sewers, and waterways during heavy rains. When not managed well, this rainwater runoff can cause flooding and can carry pollutants directly into our creeks, lakes, rivers, and streams. We all play a role in water quality. Help your students identify water-friendly behaviors that benefit the Wissahickon by using the resources listed below.
The Wissahickon Creek has been around since ancient times. More recently, it has been exposed to the products of industry. Here, Bob Gutowski of the Morris Arboretum discusses the history of the Wissahickon.
As Bob Gutowski states, the Wissahickon Creek is "an important part of our heritage." Educate and inspire your students to act to protect this important waterway!
