Case Study:

Naturalized Basin

After learning about the hydrologic cycle from Captain Hydro, host Deborah Seif understands how stormwater runoff erodes soil and causes flooding, and wants to learn more about techniques that prevent runoff.

Ecologist Jeff Keller explains how naturalized basins “restore the natural landscape.” These basins contain a variety of plant materials (such as warm-season grasses) to help stabilize the basin bottom. These low-cost, low-maintenance basins help filter out pollutants such as hydrocarbons from parking lot runoff and additionally offer wildlife habitat.
